2 young girls celebrating the new year

“I'm going to start eating healthy and working out more this year”

Has this New Year’s resolution been on your list for the past few years? Have you struggled to stick to it? Don’t worry, we have all been there. Statistics show that 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February, as we automatically return to our old habits¹. If this is you, then we are here to help you focus on starting, continuing and remaining fit and healthy this year.

Here are 5 steps to a new you:

Step 1: Set goals

It is important to set goals throughout the year. By setting goals you are provided with the inspiration and motivation to strive for things that you never thought possible. Only you can discover the best you, so challenge yourself and start setting goals today. Your goals can be anything from; gaining more confidence, to fitting into your jeans or going to the gym three times a week. Whatever your New Year’s goal is, write it down, print it out, stick it up at home and do everything to achieve it.

Step 2: Track your progress

Remember that changes can take time! Many people fall into bad habits and fail to achieve their goals because they don’t track their progress. Without tracking you will lose sight of what you want to achieve. Tracking your progress will help you figure out where you are and plan where you want to be. It might be a lot of work but if you start tracking today you will be one step closer to achieving your goals.

Step 3: Get moving

It is important to incorporate fitness into your daily routine. Go outside, walk, run, breathe in the fresh air, and engage in activities that make you happy. You do not need to do marathons, find activities that interest you and are of the right intensity for your physical state. It’s so important to get your body moving, so be active and have fun.

Step 4: Plan your meals

It is important to become interested in what you put into your body. If you plan your meals for the week you will not fall into the trap of going to the food court or making unhealthy choices.

Step 5: Believe in yourself

When working towards your New Year’s resolution it is important to believe in yourself. When you have a positive outlook, you can achieve amazing things.

Need help remaining fit and healthy this year, try this:

Many of the traditional diets that we have all tried in the past result in the loss of lean muscle tissue which is counterproductive to weight management. It is important that your diet and exercise routine supports lean muscle and promotes an improved metabolism. The first place to start is to reduce your intake of storing foods (refined carbohydrates and fatty foods), thus minimising fat storage in your body. At the same time, it’s important to focus on maintaining your protein, fruit, and vegetable intake and distributing your protein intake evenly throughout the day. By ensuring this you will be on your way to achieving a leaner, healthier and happier you.

B vitamins are important as they convert proteins and carbohydrates into energy. If you’re struggling to remain energised this year, supplements containing B vitamins are beneficial as they will help overcome barriers of fatigue, slow recovery rate and pain.

Supplements and products that contain Cordycep extracts have become increasingly popular due to the health benefits they provide. For generations, cordyceps sinensis has been considered the premier agent in the Chinese culture for restoring energy, promoting longevity and improving quality of life.

Shakes are also an important part of dieting and remaining healthy. They are an easy and super healthy option that provide you with the additional protein you need. The consumption of shakes as part of your diet will help reduce food cravings and make you feel fuller for longer.
