A shy woman, Xiang Wu got two master’s degrees in IT and finance and chose to work in the IT industry. “I chose to face a computer instead of dealing with people,” she says. Working in Silicon Valley, she found out many people in her industry have laid off experiences. In 2007 she joined Nu Skin to create a back-up plan. She had three reasons to build a successful Nu Skin business: 1) To help support her children’s education; 2) To spend more with her family; and 3) To become a social entrepreneur.


Xiang Wu says a distributor must remember that challenges are there to improve you, not defeat you. She was tempted to quit many times at the beginning. “Sometimes, I decided to quit before going to sleep, and decided to continue when I woke up,” she says. She overcame frustrations by telling herself, “We are history makers, we will show people how we make a difference.” Today she says some successful engineers and bio tech scientists in Silicon Valley are deciding to build Nu Skin businesses of their own.


Decide to “be a thermostat, not a thermometer,” is advice Xiang Wu gives to people who join Nu Skin. In other words, be a leader who can turn a negative into a positive in any circumstance. She also advises people to get their priorities right—customers come first, then the team, and you come the last. Finally, set a big goal and stick with it. And most of all, never give up.


Today Xiang Wu has the life she wanted to create, and she participates as a Nourish the Children Chief Ambassador by purchasing and donating VitaMeal. She also supports the China Children’s Heart Fund. “Nu Skin gives me the capability to help more people in the world,” she says.
