Qualifying as a Circle of Excellence III is a dream come true for Lilian. To her, the title is not so much an inference to the income she has made than it being an affirmation that the longer one stays in the business, the easier it becomes and the effect of exponential returns that accumulate over the years is very real.
A former Sales Director of a media group of companies, Lilian took up the Nu Skin opportunity in 2002 and subsequently left her high-paying position to go full-time into the business. “When I first ventured into the business, my success rate was extremely low because I’m not really a people’s person. I graduated from university without keeping a phone list of my classmates and even now, I don’t have a Facebook account or on Instagram,” Lilian confessed. But what Lilian lacked in social skills, which is an integral part of network marketing, she made up for with the willingness to learn and change for the better.
Possessing a razor sharp focus in everything she commits herself to do, the dynamic leader sees every obstacle as an opportunity. “Many people will focus on the problems of doing the Nu Skin business. Some of them will say that they don’t have the gift of the gab, or that they do not have leadership qualities. I face these challenges too but I prefer to ask myself ‘what can I do?’” Lilian shared. “I focus on the solutions. Some people will say they don’t have a network so they cannot do this business. For me, I will go and find a network. An example is my penetration into the Indonesian market. I do not know anyone in Indonesia but I wanted to enter the market. So I went to an event, got to know some people, and started to build from there. ”
Knowing what she wants and learning the ways to get it, Lilian is a visionary who thinks big but starts small. She has the astonishing ability to visualise what she wants to achieve and get to work to realise it. “When I drive down the streets of Singapore, I envision every household and office unit benefiting from Nu Skin’s products and I work towards that.” However, Lilian doesn’t treat the business as a money-making machine but one that builds a long-term win-win relationship through empathetic leadership. “Leadership is not just about ability but building strong relationships with people. When you use love and compassion, you can accept each other’s differences and turn them into unique strengths for the team.”
For her achievement, Lilian is very grateful to her family for their unconditional support; her mentors Circle of Excellence IV, Rayne Ho and Angela Liew, and Circle of Excellence III, Ong Gee and Jenny Ding; and all her business partners for their great teamwork and friendship. The following chapters in Lilian’s Nu Skin journey are going to be even more exciting as she sought to be a candle to light the way for others.
