With vision and dedication, Vera Waters and Benny Chung have made a wonderful team. Over the years, many people have discovered a better self with their guidance and they have also won the honor of Circle of Excellence IV at Nu Skin Hong Kong’s 30th anniversary.
Vera and Benny are the role models of many people in Nu Skin. When asked about how they met Nu Skin, Vera said that she decided to join Nu Skin as a pioneer on the first day of its launch in Hong Kong after her good friend, Dora Hung, explained to her the business opportunities and prospects within the company, while Benny learned about Nu Skin because of Vera and later became her right-hand partner. In fact, both of their careers have been already blooming before they joined Nu Skin. Vera, as the first female Outstanding Young Person in Hong Kong, was also the leading figure in banking and beauty and charm industry. Benny, who majored in economics in University, has made outstanding achievements in the field of financial investment. Having experienced the glory of banking, finance, beauty and charm industry, they decided to give up their original jobs and take Nu Skin as their lifelong business. What makes Nu Skin so attractive? Vera explained, “Different from traditional business, direct selling is a sustainable business that doesn't require a lot of resources. With the strength of the group and quality personal care and health care products, you can stay focused and strive for your future, your health and your loved ones.” In terms of this business logic, Benny made great efforts to realize his dreams, “Nu Skin business empowers me with an autonomous lifestyle. Nu Skin’s science, products and business opportunity platform also continue to innovate, so that we and our team can continue to learn and improve themselves.”
Bomb Disposal Expert and Master of Contingency
There are countless sweat and tears behind each brilliant story. Speaking of the difficulties of running a business, Vera mentioned that the direct selling industry was not yet well established when she started her business and she also lacked experience. Therefore, she invited some direct selling experts from Taiwan to conduct training for her team. Based on her years of experience in solving problems and developing businesses in the commercial world, she learned and practiced at the same time. Being intelligent and diligent, she quickly developed a unique business philosophy that enabled her team to thrive. She still keeps her thick notebook until now, and every stroke in it bears witness to her unremitting efforts. Benny also recalled his experience in giving lectures, which went from tens of people in the first lecture to only a few in the second because he did not get the hang of it at the beginning. However, he was not defeated by setbacks. Instead, he took the initiative to ask Vera and his partners for advice to build the team's confidence in him step by step. Today, he has already transformed into a disciplined and unrivalled leader. “There is a saying that I like very much ‘Keep your head up in failure and your head down in success.’. Success needs to be accumulated. Facing setbacks is the inevitable stage for every partner in Nu Skin. As long as you are not discouraged, not impatient, not afraid of challenges, and manage your business diligently, you will surely achieve results.”
While hard work is important, adaptability is also crucial. He looked back to 2012, Nu Skin entered the stage of rapid growth and continuously launched new products, new ideas and new plans. He also needs to constantly adjust himself, finding strength from the company and his own core beliefs, finding wisdom from others and his own experience, which made him become a Master of Contingency who is able to lead the team to overcome difficulties and create one successful milestone after another.
Over the years, Vera and Benny have been working closely together. They are not only each other’s mentor but also good friend. Benny praised Vera that she is not only the spiritual leader of the team, the “bomb disposal expert” and “problem killer”, but also reputed as “Miss Magic”. “It seems that she has a magic wand in hand, and all difficulties can be solved by a simple wave. She is classy and full of positive energy, always bringing inspiration and motivation to partners.” As the chairman of the team, Vera takes care of the spiritual needs of the partners, while Benny is an excellent president who wields operation magic every day to manage the operation and training of the team. They are like two magicians who cooperate perfectly to push the team forward.
Passing on Knowledge with a Selfless Heart
Looking back to her Nu Skin journey, Vera is grateful for the unforgettable memories. “Once I went to Singapore on a business trip alone, I fell down and felt dizzy immediately. I needed to host a training that night but the pain made me hard to stand. Benny persuaded me to cancel the training, but I couldn't bear to disappoint my local partners. I stood with my teeth clenched, hoping to share all my knowledge and experience with them. After the training, when my partners knew that I was injured but still insisted on attending the lecture, they were all very moved and came forward to shake hands with me one by one to thank me. Every time I thought of that scene, I could not hold my tears, because my efforts were not in vain.” Benny also thanked Vera for nurturing him. She taught him the spirit of never giving up and doing his best, which has benefited him all his life.
Looking to the future, Vera and Benny hope to enhance the public's impression of the direct selling industry through more sharing and communication. At the same time, the two are determined to cultivate more new people and help them create a better life. “Force for Good often emphasizes that it is better to teach people to fish than to give them fish. The three dots of the Chinese character of ‘fishing’ are just like the three cores of Nu Skin: product, business and culture. We will strive to carry forward these ideas and empower people to improve lives with Nu Skin's empowering business.”
They fully embraced Nu Skin’s vision and enriched with their own experience. “There are new opportunities and new horizons every day since we joined Nu Skin.” Their advice to all partners - absorb new knowledge, learn new skills, use new thinking, find new platform, open up new fields, and create a new life together.
