An autonomous future free from formulaic life
“Our days are spent grinding through our daily work. Do we have to wait until retirement to enjoy a free and autonomous life?" Before they learned about Nu Skin, Sharon Hung and Frankie Ng never thought there would be another way. Like most people, they believed that the dream life is to study at a prestigious university and work at a big company or as a professional. From a young age they have followed this 'formula for success' to manage their life, but as they cleared each step of the formula, they seemed to realize that a ‘formularized life’ is not what they are dreaming of. Through the introduction of a friend, they eventually found the ideal life they were looking for at Nu Skin, and today they are proud members of the Circle of Excellence II.
After graduation, Sharon joined a multinational company while Frankie became a lawyer. By all accounts, they have reached their childhood goals and then some. Coming from the grassroots level, Sharon treasured her opportunity to work. She was exceedingly devoted to her job, often working dusk till dawn. Her career path was smooth and she received great recognition, but as time passed she began to feel a sense of dissatisfaction, asking herself: is this really the kind of life I want? When she met her upline, she was drawn to the time and financial flexibility that Nu Skin business offered, and joined the Nu Skin big family.
Professional does not mean security
Likewise, Frankie was also thinking about leaving his ‘comfort zone’. "While lawyer is perceived as a professional occupation, it is just another ‘hand to mouth’ job. ” Seeing how his wife became much happier after joining Nu Skin, and having learned more about the industry, Frankie’s interest was piqued. He admits that he had reservations about whether this seemingly female-dominated platform was right for him. "Later I learned that many successful men have joined Nu Skin, and I saw in them the kind of life that I yearned for - a life with autonomy, and a sense of security. That’s why I decided to join forces with my wife in developing our Nu Skin business, in order to regain control of our life.”
Frankie and Sharon stepped away from the standard advancement ladder of traditional corporations to carve out a way of their own at Nu Skin, breaking from the cliché that the only way to success was to ‘become a professional’ or ‘join a multinational corporation’. They humbly attributed their success to the support and hard work of their team. "Our work is not a one-man-show. It’s the result of contributions from the entire team, accumulated bit by bit. Our motivation is to help even more people achieve their dreams,” says Sharon. Frankie adds, "the current mood in society has left many wondering about what the future holds. This has given me a sense of purpose, and I hope that I can improve the lives of others through this platform.”
On the topic of team management, Frankie believes that a leader must lead by example. Unlike other industries, there are no degrees or courses to study for; the important thing is to learn on the job and from the successes of others. He continues, "As a leader, you have to stick to the company’s program and meet the requirements of the company. That’s what makes others follow.” When asked about their key to success in Nu Skin business, both said that the main point is to hold on to your dream and strive until the end. They also advised their partners not to over-complicate things; sometimes, thinking too much can create barriers.
Balance work and life at your own pace
Friends often greet Sharon and Frankie with these words, “Lucky you!” Sharon’s response to this is, "Why not you too?" "The key to work-life balance is to choose the right platform." She jokes that Nu Skin is the ‘right one’ in her mind. “Because of Nu Skin, we’ve gotten closer to our daughter. In our old jobs, we had to apply for leave beforehand, but now that we’re in charge of our own business, we can plan our work at our own pace, and spend more time with our daughter." Talking about their daughter, the couple always brings a smile to their faces. For them, taking family trips together is the most enjoyable moment in life; it broadens their daughter’s horizons, and trains her to be more independent.
Frankie also hopes that his daughter will grow up happy. "Many professionals that we know are very concerned about their children’s futures. They often make their children walk the same path, get ‘A’s and enroll into a prestigious school. But we give our daughter a lot of freedom in terms of her grades and what kind of work she wants to do. What matters is the kind of person that she wants to become and the contribution she has to society. I believe it’s good enough to have this kind of positive values."
Looking to the future, Frankie hopes to use his experience to help his new partners and foster outstanding entrepreneurs who can ‘replicate success’. Sharon hopes to be an influential person and bring more happiness to the world. "It’s a hard thing to achieve for most professions, but through the international platform of Nu Skin, we can bring to more people the opportunity to achieve true value of life, and change the world with a positive culture."
