Free your mind and transform your life

For new Circle of Excellence II Members Lindie Chan and her husband K S Fong, joining Nu Skin has not only resulted in outstanding sales performance by their team, but also brought them a business that truly blends work and family happiness together. The unique business model of Nu Skin has earned the couple spectacular gains, as well as closer family ties.

Before Lindie joined Nu Skin, she worked for a major fashion group. Huge stress from her job had a detrimental effect on her skin so a colleague recommended Nu Skin products to her. Seeing an improvement in her skin, many friends began to ask her about it, and this was unknowingly the start of Lindie’s Nu Skin business. Despite a stable job and steady income, the birth of Lindie’s children motivated her to find a way such that she may devote more time to her family. And so, she made a decision that would change her whole life : to join Nu Skin.

The career change was not an easy one. Widespread misconceptions add another hurdle to Lindie’s Nu Skin business. “It wasn’t as easy and smooth as I thought. My friends tried to persuade me to give up, and some friends even told me to quit as soon as they picked up the call. But their rejection and blunt words only served to push me forward!” recalls Lindie. Underneath Lindie’s kind and gentle appearance lies a strong and unwielding heart. She said to herself that as long as there was one single person on the street to talk to, she would continue her Nu Skin business. With the tenacious spirit, Lindie quickly began to feel the time and financial flexibility that Nu Skin business brought her. Lindie persuaded her husband KS Fong, who at that time was still a part of the traditional workforce struggling for profits, to join her in developing the Nu Skin business.

After researching the industry and Nu Skin’s market potential, K S made the decision to commit and became his wife’s strongest ally. A veteran in engineering management, K S said that the ‘rules of survival’ in traditional industries necessitate assertiveness in order to rule one’s environment and manage subordinates effectively. He found that the same rules, however, did not necessarily apply to Nu Skin, so he set aside his 'boss' persona to work side-by-side with his partners, growing their team by attracting people with even better abilities.

Positivity turns the tide

Achievement is inevitably the result of hard work. Lindie remembers that in the early stages, she received news one day that about a hundred members of her team, all from one and the same company, had to leave because the company policy forbade them to take side jobs. Losing nearly half their team over night was a devastating blow to the couple. Lindie could not sleep that night, not just because of the major crisis her team was facing, but also the grief for her partners who were being forced to give up their dreams. The next day, however, they were back in the game and determined to make things better: if they lose a hundred, they’ll find a thousand more. Looking back, the crisis was in fact an opportunity, further hardening their resolve to continue their Nu Skin business as lifelong career.

Change and innovate - the first key step

In addition to courage to hold on to one’s dream, Lindie and K S believe that willingness to change and innovate is also indispensable to success. “Names often box us in as to how we view something. Take a cup, for example - while holding water is the first thing people associate with it, plenty of possibilities awaits it. You can, say, use it to as a flower planter. ‘Change and innovate’ means liberating your mind and setting preconceptions aside. Dare to embrace and accept change, and you’ll see a big new world,” explains K S.

He also encourages his partners to change and innovate. 4 years ago, K S went through the process himself. Then 58 years old, K S announced at a training convention that he would learn to ride a motorcycle again at the age of 60. A month before his 60th birthday, he bought a motorcycle; today, cruising has become one of the couple’s hobbies. He has even made a group of young friends who also love motorcycles and with whom he shares his thoughts and talk about the latest trends. Lindie admires how her husband is willing to embrace new things and turns words into action. “We all live in the present and we can’t just stay where we are forever. In order to move forward, we have to learn about the newest trends and be willing to change.”

Greater world for children and harmonious life for family

Lindie is grateful for the freedom that her Nu Skin business gives her, which allows her to devote more time to her family. “Nu Skin doesn’t place any restriction on how we operate. Sometimes we take our children to work meetings and conferences so that they can learn more about our work, as well as expand their horizons. It also gives us the feeling that all four of us are involved in our Nu Skin business, and improves communication within the family, which is a really unexpected reward,” adds K S.

Looking to the future, they say that to this point their operations have focused on Southeast Asia, but with their children now studying abroad in Canada, they are also looking at expanding their market there. Lindie says that she still enjoys the process of recruitment, because whenever she discusses Nu Skin with new friends, she sees an image of herself as she was starting out, motivated and excited. K S jokes that he has already took the word “retirement” out of his dictionary, hoping to share his views on life with many more others in pursuit of their dreams.
