Preterm Baby Beats the Odds with Lifesaving Surgery

Meng Yao and her twin sister were preterm babies, weighing only 4.5 pounds, and were given a slim chance of survival by physicians. Meng Yao especially was not expected to live after being diagnosed with severe complex congenital heart disease. She suffered high fevers and cried in pain incessantly. Her parents used nearly all of their savings to pay for treatment at Shanghai Children's Hospital of Fudan University.

Upon learning Meng Yao’s story, Nu Skin Greater China Children’s Heart Fund (GCCHF) helped with funding the infant’s lifesaving surgery. Today, the 7-month-old is all smiles – and so is her twin sister.

“As long as they can stay healthy, everything (is) worth it. Your care, help, and support were a great relief to our economic and emotional burdens,” said Meng Yao’s mother of GCCHF. “Thank you so much for giving us hope and confidence.” ■
