Michele Hillbery worked as a commercial pilot flying corporate jets all over the world prior to “turning in her wings” to be a stay-at-home mom to her three daughters. She became familiar with direct selling while she was still a pilot, and she thought the idea of building a network of people that would enable her to leverage their efforts made sense. “Flying jets was pretty cool, but if I didn’t fly, I didn’t get paid,” she says. “That was my first why—freedom!”
Michele became a distributor before she married Jonathan Hillbery, a successful Team Elite Executive. However, she wanted to create her own organization through her own effort. “I did not want to ride on his coattail,” she says. When she learned about the Team Elite trip to Paris, she decided to start qualifying as a Team Elite herself. “I said to myself, ‘If it is meant to be, it is up to me,’” she says. “I told everyone … I put the challenge out there soooooo far that I couldn’t fail.” Michele adopted a “failure is not an option” attitude right from the beginning. She “interviews” prospects, and what is most important to her is whether the person has big dreams and is willing to fight for them. And every day, even on holidays, her team has an 8 a.m. call to keep them all motivated.
As Michele continues to grow her team, she makes a point to encourage her team members to join her and Jonathan in participating in the Nourish the Children initiative. “The day I received my Chief Ambassador pin I cried,” she says. “I thought of the thousands of children who have been able to eat and have full tummies and smiles on their faces because of the work that my team and I have done.”
