"Serum Alpha-Carotene Concentrations and Risk of Death Among US Adults.” According to an article published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine, Nov. 22, 2010, higher blood levels of α-carotene are associated with increased longevity. This study assessed the direct relationship between carotene concentrations and risk of death among 15,318 US adults 20 years and older who participated in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Follow-up Study. Archives of Internal Medicine is published by the American Medical Association.
