If persistence has a face, it would take the likeness of Hock Seng. The man is the epitome of someone with an iron will to succeed in whatever he believes in. Starting his Nu Skin journey in 2001 with zero experience in direct sales, the former Human Resource Director overcame resistance from the people closest to him and proved that perseverance is the best assurance of success.
A self-professed workaholic who was promoted 13 times throughout his 17 years as an employee, Hock Seng began yearning for a change at the age of 40 to pursue something he is passionate about in life. His passion lies in helping others, which was the reason Nu Skin appealed to him as success in this business depends on the number of people he helped succeed. “I like the business model. It is different from traditional businesses where people would cut throats to stay ahead of the competition. In Nu Skin, I can have the freedom to plan my time and success without the expense of health and family time,” Hock Seng enthused.
During his transition from being a salaried man to running his own Nu Skin business, the jovial entrepreneur faced his greatest challenge not just from dealing with rejection but changing his mindset from that of being an employee to being in total control. “Success in everything we do depends on skillset and mindset. Skillset can be learnt easily but mindset is harder to change,” shared Hock Seng. “Switching from a task-oriented mindset that is based on following instructions to taking full ownership and be in creation mode all the time to make things happen is the key to success in Nu Skin.”
In order to make that switch effortless, the forward-thinker attests to continuous personal development by keeping an open mind to learn, upgrade through training and accepting the guidance of their mentors. Hock Seng also has a different approach to view success and that is “to think of becoming a testimonial. This will inspire people not just through words, but by what have been done and achieved. Constantly gain new experiences, create success stories and never stop sharing these stories!”
For his Circle of Excellence I achievement, Hock Seng is very grateful to his parents and loved ones at home who turned from being the most resistant to him joining Nu Skin into his biggest supporters. He is also immensely thankful to Circle of Excellence I, Jackie & Dr James Chia, for helping him appreciate the business from various perspectives. One of the main reasons Hock Seng continues to thrive in his Nu Skin business is his partner, Elicia, who has helped him grow tremendously as a person for which he is indebted. Last but not least, the leader would like to thank all his business partners especially those who are committed to Making A Difference Everyday for their diligence as well as help and support.
Moving ahead, Hock Seng is looking forward to nurture the rise of the millennials in the business as successors and to learn and grow with them!
