Bravely Challenge the Unknown and Live a Fulfilling Life

More than twenty years ago, Polly Sze faced an important choice in her career development: should she continue as an "employee" in a stable job, or should she take a leap of faith, bravely challenge the unknown, and fully commit to a career with Nu Skin? Longing for a life of freedom and autonomy, Polly is grateful she chose the latter. Today, as she celebrates her promotion to the Circle of Excellence II, she shares her success story with her husband, Joe Yim.

 

A Heart to Help Becomes an Entrepreneurial Opportunity

Polly previously worked in the beauty industry. With a curious nature, she took Japanese lessons in her spare time to equip herself for work. Coincidentally, her Japanese teacher had just joined Nu Skin. While using Nu Skin products and comparing them with other beauty products, he also taught Polly Japanese. Polly admits that at that time, she thought her teacher, as a man, was passionately promoting beauty products, and since the products were effective, she decided to help him introduce Nu Skin products to her friends. The response from her friends was positive, and they began to inquire about the products. This led her to attend a product seminar to learn more about them. However, she accidentally entered the wrong hall and attended a Nu Skin business opportunity seminar. This unexpected misstep sparked her interest in Nu Skin and marked an important turning point in her career.

 

Combining Nu Skin’s business platform with her beauty expertise, Polly quickly saw her team grow as more people joined her. However, the unexpected success put her in a dilemma—due to the rapid development of her team, she needed to invest more time leading and caring for them. After some struggle, she concluded that the opportunity for entrepreneurship should not be missed. Even if she failed, she could always return to her previous job. Ultimately, she made the decision to leave her job and fully dedicate herself to Nu Skin. Looking back now, time has proven that she made the right choice. Not only has she gained a supportive team at Nu Skin, but she has also found a lifelong partner.

 

Joe, who runs a restaurant, has always supported Polly in her direct selling business: "Nu Skin is a great business opportunity. I see the company's excellent research and development capabilities and great growth potential, so I joined Nu Skin to work alongside Polly." When asked about their division of labor, Polly chuckles, saying that Joe has always been the team's strongest support. After team meetings, Joe often plays the role of chef, inviting partners to their home for gatherings, allowing everyone to relax both physically and mentally. "Others may focus on how high partners can fly, but we care more about whether our partners are tired. While working hard to grow their business, they also need a strong mindset to go further."

 

Starting from the Heart and Achieving Others Through Love

As Polly's Nu Skin business took off, she decided to give herself a two-year learning break to enroll in a theology course. To her surprise, her business did not stagnate but instead developed in new ways. "Because of a classmate from the seminary, I met many friends with hearing impairments, and they later joined our big family." Polly admits that she initially faced several communication barriers with her hearing-impaired partners. However, advancements in communication technology have made interaction easier, and sometimes they hire sign language interpreters to help integrate hearing-impaired partners into the team, working together toward better life goals.

 

When asked about their secret to success, the couple emphasizes the importance of "starting from the heart." "Our faith teaches us to empathize with others, to remove the 'leader mask,' and not to solely focus on partners' performance. We must care for them from the heart because Nu Skin is a people-oriented business. Understanding things from the partners' perspective helps us truly know their needs and provide the best support. Our mission is 'small successes lead to great achievements.' 'Small success' refers to individual success, while 'great achievement' means helping others realize their dreams. Many businesses can bring you success, but not every business can help improve the quality of life for more families like Nu Skin can. We will continue to fulfill this belief with heart and strive to cultivate more partners to become members of the Circle of Excellence."
