NU SKIN Force for Good Foundation Donates NT$ 10 Million to Help Victims of Formosa Fun Coast Dust Explosion Create “New Skins”

November 6, 2015

Three and half months ago, a serious explosion involving powder dust occurred at the Formosa Fun Coast, a waterpark in northern Taiwan, injuring approximately 500 people. Once learning about this disastrous incident, NU SKIN called for immediate actions from all its business partners in Greater China Region and their family members to care for victims of the accident. At the call of NU SKIN, over NT$ 10 million was raised, which was then donated to the Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation, which has served in Taiwan for 32 years, to establish the Physical and Psychological Rehabilitation Service Fund for Dust Explosion Victims. In mid-October, 2015, the opening of Taipei Minsheng Rehabilitation Center declared the launch of a five-year long-term plan to establish 16 rehabilitation centers around Taiwan to help those burn victims to create “new skins”.

In the face of a long physical and psychological rehabilitation journey, other than overcoming the physical inconvenience and psychological barriers, those burn victims have to bear an out-of-own-pocket medical cost as high as NT$ 500–800 thousand each year, which certainly is an extremely heavy burden for young people who have not set foot in society yet. Charlene Chiang, Regional Vice President of NU SKIN Greater China and President of NU SKIN Taiwan, indicated that with the spirit of Force for Good, NU SKIN has raised over NT$ 10 million within one month through agglomerating the action of goodness of NU SKIN family in the hope of creating “new skins” for the victims. By choosing to cooperate with the experienced Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation, NU SKIN hopes to help the victims to get on their feet again and maintain the courage to keep their faces toward the sunshine through professional planning, collaboration of social workers, rehabilitation experts and psychologists, and gradual expansion of the network of rehabilitation services.
