Liu Pei-jing was born with EB (hereditary epidermolysis bullosa), a rare disorder dubbed “butterfly kids”. EB patients suffer from blisters or blood blisters wherever there are mucous membranes inside and outside of the body. The physical pains and emotional torment follow EB patients in their daily life like a shadow. However, Pei-jing never becomes dejected because of this suffering. By combining her life with colors and figures in her artworks, Pei-jing truthfully embodies her beautiful life in her artistic creation in a unique manner. This year, Pei-jing participated in the 2nd New Talent Illustrators Contest – Happy Illustration Island with a series of “Ai-xian-mei” (literally appreciation for beauty of defect) illustration works, hoping to convey the beauty of life with painting brushes and fulfill her dream of becoming an illustrator with creative paintings. Pei-jing, who used to be honored with the President’s Education Award, said, “Other than willpower, the reason for me insist on living is ‘full of love’. I really hope I can pass on the beautiful colors and stories in life with my artworks.” The encouragement of her family and friends is the biggest driving force for her to constantly pursue her dreams.
