The Pediatric and Adult Interventional Cardiac Symposium, Asia Pacific (PICS-AICS AP), was held in Taiwan for the first time from April 1, 2015 to April 4, 2015. This quadrennial convention attracted 299 cardiologists from 27 countries around the world to join. In order to show its gratitude to NU SKIN for sponsoring the first surgery for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in Greater China which would happen later, and for NU SKIN’s contribution on long-term caring on children with congenital heart disease, the Organizing Committee of PICS-AICS AP awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Vincent Cheng, Regional Vice President of NU SKIN Greater China, during the convention.
The first surgery for TAVR, introduced by Cardiac Children’s Foundation Taiwan, will be conducted at National Taiwan University Hospital in the near future. This operation, the first time to be conducted in Greater China, may serve as a benchmark in the Asia-Pacific region. Since TAVR surgery is not yet covered by the National Health Insurance in Taiwan, the self-pay amount for the cost of this surgery is nearly NT$ 1 million, which is a serious burden for many underprivileged families. With the mission of Force for Good, through NU SKIN Greater China Children Heart Fund, NU SKIN will sponsor 6 special cases this year to effectively help patients with heart disease by shortening the recovery period from several months to 5 days and enhancing the recovery rate.
The NU SKIN Greater China Children Heart Fund gathers all strength and intends to comprehensively enhance the technology and medical level of heart surgery in Asia-Pacific region, so as to weave a tight-knit protections for the children with congenital heart disease, to contribute to the development of medical treatment for congenital heart disease in Greater China, and to bring every congenital heart disease child a blessing future.
