Create 20 Social Enterprises in Taiwan
April 1, 2016
NU SKIN and W.island work together to build a dream-fulfilling platform with the theme of “Create 20 Social Enterprises in Taiwan”. The panel of judges, including Ms. Queenie Sheng, Regional Vice President, Success & Branding Communications, NU SKIN Greater China, selected the young travelers for the 5th Mission-oriented Journey in the final selection. With the collaboration between W.island and NU SKIN, young people who have the potential to create social enterprises and solve social problems with quality business models are provided with the opportunity to explore the world and learn more about entrepreneurship models through a global mission in order to form an uplifting force for social development.
In the rankings of 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Index compiled by the US-based Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute (GEDI) and the World Economic Forum (WEF), Taiwan ranked No. 1 in Asia and No. 8 in the world. In the sub-indexes of Entrepreneurial Aspirations and New Products Development, Taiwan even ranked No. 1 in the world, indicating that Taiwan’s entrepreneurial momentum has been highly recognized by the international community. “In the face of all kinds of uncertainties in the world, new concepts and innovative ventures may create a new opportunity in society. If you treat the ocean as the city wall, Taiwan will be an isolated island. On the other hand, if you are willing to see this world with an open mind and treat the ocean as a bridge, we will be connected to the whole world,” said Ms. Queenie Sheng when encouraging those young students on spot with her personal experience.
Upholding the spirit of “teaching a man to fish”, NU SKIN sets a mission of forming a Force for Good around the world. Since 2012, as one of the initiators of “W.island: One Journey, One Mission”, Ms. Charlene Chiang, President of NU SKIN Taiwan and Regional Vice President, NU SKIN Greater China, has helped select young travelers from among over one thousand young people aged between 20 and 26. So far, a total of over 500 young travelers have been selected to explore the world, grow in their global missions, and form an uplifting force for social development in Taiwan.
