Changing your Skincare Routine with the Seasons

Changing your Skincare Routine with the Seasons

Apply

As the seasons change, so do your skincare needs. When the weather transitions from summer into fall, you will need to modify more than your work attire. Using the same products year-round will not yield the results you crave. So grab a few PENS and jot down these simple steps below that will help you achieve healthy, glowing skin during the colder months ahead.

Purify. Summer months often require a more heavy-duty cleanser to rid the skin of excess oils. However, as the weather cools, oil production will diminish often resulting in increased dryness for some. These individuals may want to consider incorporating a milder cleanser into their skincare routine as they come into contact with colder air. You should wash away impurities with a gentle cleanser up to two times daily.

Exfoliate. Exfoliation is a great way to keep pores from becoming clogged and reveal a healthy, glowing complexion.  If not properly exfoliated, your skin can become dull and lifeless over time. Be sure to scrub away the top layer of dead skin and pave the way for glowing, rejuvenated skin. Exfoliation is also a great way to ensure that your other skincare products have the best chance of absorbing into your skin and taking effect for optimum results.

If you are new to exfoliating, ease yourself into the process with a mild exfoliator once or twice a week. This will allow your skin to have an illuminated look without damaging it.

SKINCARE TIP

If you are new to exfoliating, ease yourself into the process with a mild exfoliator once or twice a week.

Nourish. The dry, brisk air of the fall and winter months takes a toll on your skin. You will need to swap your lighter summer moisturizer for one that is more hydrating. Opt for a more quenching solution to really hydrate your dehydrated skin. Be sure to apply moisturizer at least twice a day. You may even decide to moisturize up to three times per day while your skin adjusts to seasonal changes.

Shield. A common skincare misconception is that your skin only requires sun protection during the summer months. Although the temperature has taken a dive, the sun is still shining strong. Carry over your protective measures into the cooler months. Use a sunscreen or morning moisturizer containing a broad spectrum SPF to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. To maintain youthful skin, include year-round sun protection in your skincare routine. ■
