Passion Is the First Step to Success


Team Elite Executive[i] Chun Dong-il from Korea had always dreamed of having time and financial freedom. However, as he began his career as an architectural engineer after college, he realized it would be very hard to achieve this dream if he continued to work as an engineer—work that demanded over 12 hours a day and offered little room for true financial independence.


Realizing he needed to make a change if he wanted to have the rewarding life he envisioned for himself and his family, at the age of 29, he became a Nu Skin distributor like his older sister. As he investigated the company and its business model, Chun became confident that Nu Skin could accelerate his ability to enhance his quality of life. Not long after joining the company with his wife, Kim Su-Kyung, Chun decided to leave his engineering career and devote all of his efforts toward building his Nu Skin business.


Focusing on the substantial benefits he knew Nu Skin offered, Chun worked hard at building the career—and life—he had always envisioned by concentrating on three components he felt were required in his endeavor. “Passion enables dreams, change generates opportunities, and consideration for others creates beautiful paths,” he says. Chun has put these concepts into practice every day since beginning his Nu Skin business, and he continues to share this mindset with everyone he meets—especially those in his organization. He believes that everyone has the desire to “be better,” and passion is the first step to improving one's life. He puts his success theory into simple terms by explaining that he keeps his eyes on the future and his feet on his current situation—with his brain continually striving to narrow the gap between the two.


Change Leads to Rewarding Opportunities

Change, the second part of Chun Dong-il’s path to success, brings people closer to fulfilling their dreams. “When you realize the need for change and extend the effort to make those changes, you are presented with an opportunity,” says Chun. “At a time when I wanted change, the Nu Skin business was my opportunity.” He also learned that changing himself triggered change in other people, while transforming how he viewed life.


Since starting the business, Chun has been making an effort to meet one person each day. He set a rule for himself: He should meet one person a day and deliver the value of the business. In the process of following this rule, he has come to realize many things. He discovered the importance of looking at himself when things go wrong, rather than blaming others. He also learned that everybody is different, and that you must always be considerate of others. One way Chun demonstrates consideration for others is by helping them reach their goals. “[Helping others succeed] brings the greatest enjoyment in my life,” he says. “You can expand your Nu Skin business by sincerely helping others fulfill their dreams.” Chun especially enjoys developing new leaders for Nu Skin as it enters the 2.0 era, and is pleased that so many young people demonstrate true passion as they work hard to build their own successful Nu Skin businesses.


Now just entering his 40s, Chun has realized his vision of creating time and financial freedom, but he is far from finished when it comes to expanding his Nu Skin business. He continually helps others on their path to success so they can experience the rewards he and his family enjoy. In the process, he looks forward to continuing to enhance his life so he can spend more time with his wife and children. “Nu Skin has provided freedom in my life and has made me a better person,” he says. “I encourage people everywhere with passion and dreams to create a wonderful life for themselves through the great opportunity Nu Skin offers.”
