The Direct Selling Association (DSA) is a national trade association of businesses, like Nu Skin, that specialize in manufacturing, distributing, and selling products to consumers using a direct selling approach and model. DSA’s Code of Ethics is an indication of the association’s commitment to maintaining ethical business practices and benefits every party involved—the member organization, the distributor, and the consumer.
To be a member of DSA, companies are required to adhere to the Code of Ethics. In so doing, the company commits to practice and maintain the highest level of ethics in business. This way, distributors and consumers alike can be confident that the member company is serious about providing high-quality service and products.
What Code of Ethics means for Distributors
As a distributor, you should expect the member company to:
· Provide you with accurate information regarding the company’s sales methods, products, and compensation plan.
· Explain the relationship between you and the company in writing.
· Be accurate and truthful in any comparisons about products, opportunities, or services.
· Refrain from participating in any illegal or unethical recruiting practices or charging exorbitant entrance and training fees.
· Ensure that you are not just purchasing products solely to qualify for downline commissions.
· Ensure that any marketing materials you receive are consistent with the company’s policies, have the same return policy, and are reasonably priced.
· Require you to adhere to the requirements of the Code of Ethics.
· Safeguard your private and personal information.
· Provide sufficient training to help you operate effectively and ethically.
· Base all potential and actual sales figures on documented facts.
· Encourage you to purchase only what you need to sell in a reasonable amount of time.
· Buy back any products or marketing material you have purchased within the past 12 months at 90% or more of your original cost if you decide to leave the business.
· Explain the repurchase option in writing.
· Maintain reasonable start-up costs and fees.
What Code of Ethics means for Consumers
As a distributor, consumers should expect you to:
· Tell you who they are, why they are approaching you, and what products they are selling.
· Promptly end a presentation or product demonstration at your request.
· Provide a receipt clearly explaining the period in which you can withdraw from a purchase order within a minimum of three days from the date of transaction and receive a full refund.
· Explain how to return a product or cancel an order.
· Provide promotional materials that contain the address and telephone number of the company.
· Respect your privacy by calling at a time that is convenient for you.
· Safeguard your personal and private information.
· Provide accurate and honest information regarding price, quantity, quality, performance, and availability of their product or service.
· Offer a written receipt in a language you can understand.
· Offer a complete description of any warrantee or guarantee.
