Fifteen years ago, brothers John and Tom Dwyer owned several Irish Pubs in the Big Apple. John’s wife Patricia worked with a publishing company but dreamt of owning her own business. Still, she could see how long and hard John and his two brothers worked. Pat was searching; John had absolutely no time for any new ventures.
Perhaps it was destiny that at this time John’s cousin sent them a video promoting the Nu Skin opportunity. Furthermore, their sister-in-law (and now business partner) Jo Anna sent them samples of the products. The ping-pong effect got Patricia right away. Like Tom, John wasn’t so sure in the beginning. It wasn’t until he understood the marketing plan that he could see the potential. Fifteen years later, you might say the rest is history.
"Today, we work toward the milestones and celebrate them,” John and Patricia say. “This is a business of personal growth. The financial growth follows. We take every opportunity to learn about the business and ourselves. We attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, first ever network marketing certification course. As a result of that we are in the book, Your First Year in Network Marketing. Our message remains the same, ‘Whatever you do, just don’t quit.’”
What have they learned? Patricia once used to have a fear of public speaking. John announced the couple would attend a speech workshop, all day Friday and Saturday. When given this news, Pat replied, “I hope you did not pay for me because I am not attending.” She did attend and worked through her fears. Today, Pat can speak in front of crowds and enjoys presenting. The Dwyers were awarded the Global Advantage Award. This prestigious recognition was given to just eight distributorships in 1996 for sponsoring overseas. When asked how they got it, they reply, “We got more no’s, in more languages, in more countries, than any one else.” Another milestone the Dwyer’s have reached is being inducted into the 1 Million Dollar Circle.* They were excited to reach this mark and to be recognized with other top earners. Today, the Dwyer’s business consists of working all the divisions. Pat is a Nu Skin Trainer and holds trainings monthly. At the 2006 Global Convention in October, she was awarded the Gift of Hope Award at the Nu Skin Trainer reception, an award she will always treasure.
The biggest reward from this business is time freedom, followed by financial freedom. To get up in the morning and ask, ‘what will we do today?’ We work with our organization all over the world. It is truly liberating. Our goal is to help as many people who are willing to go through the process to get there,” they say.
