TOUCH project
Take One Ukrainian Child's Hand

The TOUCH Project is a sponsorship programme for children that are orphans or that have disabilities in Uzhgorod, Ukraine.

The project was created in February 2001 thanks to the international sister cities programme between Corvallis, Oregon in the United states and Uzhgorod.

The TOUCH Project has grown to include four sponsorship programs for over 300 children in Ukraine including:

• The Chaslivtsi Orphanage (110 children) provides a boarding school situation for children, ages 7-17, who have been abandoned or orphaned. Most of the children reside at the orphanage on a fulltime basis, but a few children travel home to relatives on weekends or certain occasions.

• The New Family Program (125 children) includes children whose parents are deceased, deprived of their parental rights, in prison, or have abandoned their children. These children are often under the care of a grandparent who lives on a pension of about $50-60 per month. The program provides a centre where children may receive a hot meal, meet with friends, study, take a shower, wash their clothes, and gain instruction in singing, dancing, art, sewing, languages, and computers.

• The Medical-Social Rehabilitation Centre (55 children) includes children from 3 to 18 years with various physical and/or mental disabilities who usually live with a family member and come to the centre for school, physical therapy, socialization, and training.

• The Vocational Training Programs (15) provide opportunities for orphanage graduates to live in a safe environment and learn to develop marketable skills.

• The School #14 programme. The school is a very poor Roma school close to Uzhgorod Roma camp in the Ukraine. Since September 2006, the TOUCH project has included the school in its scope of activities, finding sponsors for 21 children, donating school supplies to each child, giving financial help for the construction of indoor toilets and paying for breakfast for each child each day.

The specific guidelines of The TOUCH Project include:

• To provide a sponsorship programme between individual(s) and Ukrainian children which encourages a friendship between sponsor and child.

• To assess the needs of the children in the TOUCH Project and work with Ukrainian citizens, agencies, and organisations to provide opportunities to improve the lives of these children.

• To ensure that each child in The TOUCH Project has access to an environment that is sanitary and safe.

• To encourage the mental, physical, emotional and educational growth of each child in The TOUCH Project.

• To provide opportunities for these children to develop into responsible, employed, and skilled citizens who
benefit their families, communities, and country.

Project Funding
The Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation has combined its resources with the generosity of Distributors in the US and Europe to provide funds for a number of large projects at the Chaslivtsi Orphanage in Uzhgorod, the Ukraine:

• A new laundry roomcomplete with washing machines and dryers
• A new playground, with a climbing frame, swings and a slippery slide
• New matresses and bedding so the children can sleep comfortably and in hygienic conditions.
• Significant upgrades to the educational facilities at the Chaslivtsi orphanage. The renovation of the classroom was completed in 2006, with new flooring, furniture and educational materials.

In 2007, Nu Skin Force For Good Foundation continued to support the TOUCH projects, giving funds to rebuild School #14. Force For Good Foundation donations financed further repairs and renovations which took place during the 2007 summer break. Workers repaired the walls and roof of the dining room and one wing of the school, including a computer room and a large multi-purpose room. This work has created a more comfortable, cheerful and optimistic environment for these needy students and their teachers.
