NU SKIN RESEARCH VALIDATES YOUTH GENE CLUSTERS

USING GENE CHIP TECHNOLOGY

Scientists Present Findings at Annual Meeting of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists

PROVO, Utah—Dec. 11, 2009—Nu Skin scientists presented the results of their latest anti-aging skin care research supporting the science of youth gene clusters at the Society for Cosmetic Chemists 2009 Annual Scientific Meeting and Technology Showcase in New York City, Dec. 10-11. The research validates that a proprietary ingredient used in the company’s newly launched ageLOC anti-aging skin care products has positive effects on groups of genes related to youthful skin.

“Nu Skin used gene chip technology to identify functional groups of age-related genes—which we call ‘youth gene clusters,’” said Helen Knaggs, Ph.D., vice president of Nu Skin global research and development. “Our research on youth gene clusters helps us better understand the mechanism of action of specific anti-aging ingredients on the ultimate sources of aging.”

About the Study

The study shows that salicin, a proprietary active ingredient in Nu Skin’s ageLOC products, is capable of resetting the activity level of genes within identified youth gene clusters. Nu Skin scientists believe the enhanced activity is then able to better protect the skin from environmental damage, thereby reducing the appearance of signs of aging on human skin. Authors of the study are Remona Gopaul, associate senior scientist at Nu Skin; Helen Knaggs, Ph.D., vice president of Nu Skin global research and development; Anna Langerveld, Ph.D., president and CEO of Genemarkers LLC; and Jan Lephart, senior director of Nu Skin product development.
